In Loving MemoryofLinda Jane NgarupeJuly 30, 1960 - August 10, 2011As the daughter of educators, school life has always been a part of Linda Jane Davis Ngarupe’s life. Linda’s first official job in education was as an instructional aide during her senior year in high school. During the college years, summer breaks were filled with working at the Hueneme Seabee Base preschool program.
Linda attended Brigham Young University – Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University – Hawaii in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. With an emphasis on Early Childhood Education.
The Ngarupe family moved to the Cook Islands in 1983. While living in the Cook Islands Linda enjoyed teaching at one of the local village schools
In 1990 the Ngarupe’s moved to California. Linda taught preschool and then started teaching in Pleasant Valley School District at Bedford Open, Las Colinas, and Tierra Linda schools. In 1995 Linda earned her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from California State University, Northridge and in 1999 Linda completed her Tier II Administrative Program in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Linda has been in administration since 1996 starting at Bedford Open and El Rancho Structured Schools.
In 2002 Linda started with University Preparation School at CSU Channel Islands which is a Countywide collaborative and serves as the Professional Development School for CSU Channel Islands. As the Executive Director Linda has helped the program grow from a 300 student K-5 program to a 700 student program that includes preschool and a middle school. Being an educator has truly become a passion in Linda’s life.
In 2008 Linda earned the Chief Business Officer Certificate from University of Southern California as she sought to refine her skills in educational business. Linda also teaches a college class in preschool assessment for West Ed. Linda is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Education Honor Society. She received the Claudia A. Balach Teacher Researcher Award at the 2008 American Educational Research Association Conference and in 2004 was Administrator of the Year – Elementary for the South Ventura Chapter, Association of California School Administrators. IN 2010 Linda was honored with the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Month Award. Linda has served on several advisory committees including Pleasant Valley Neighborhoods for Learning, CSUCI School of Education and the California Charter Schools Association.On August 10, 2011 Linda Ngarupe lost her 2 year battle with cancer. She leaves behind an amazing legacy in her beloved schools UPS and UCMS. Ms. Ngarupe will be greatly missed in the UCS community.
